Authentic Walking Food Tour with Local Guide in Phnom Penh

This is a 3-hour experience from Phnom Penh, built around Local restaurant, Royal Palace Park and Local bar. Khmer food is milder than Thai and sourer than Vietnamese, built on prahok fermented fish paste and on kroeung, a lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and kaffir-lime paste pounded fresh. The dish everyone is taught is fish amok, a coconut curry steamed in a banana-leaf cup until it sets like a custard; lok lak, pepper-seared beef with a lime-and-pepper dipping sauce, is the other. Kampot pepper, which has a protected origin, turns up in both. Classes usually start in a market, where the guide walks you through the fermented fish, the palm sugar and the river fish before anything is cooked.
