Full description
This is a 4-hour experience in Phnom Penh, built around Local restaurant, Phnom Penh Night Market and Russian Market. It is run by Siem Reaper Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Khmer food is milder than Thai and sourer than Vietnamese, built on prahok fermented fish paste and on kroeung, a lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and kaffir-lime paste pounded fresh. The dish everyone is taught is fish amok, a coconut curry steamed in a banana-leaf cup until it sets like a custard; lok lak, pepper-seared beef with a lime-and-pepper dipping sauce, is the other. Kampot pepper, which has a protected origin, turns up in both. Classes usually start in a market, where the guide walks you through the fermented fish, the palm sugar and the river fish before anything is cooked.

The tour with Lee was great, we learned so much about Cambodia, its food and its history and language. The food itself was delicious, local food that was so tasty - before this tour we thought we’d tried lots of Cambodian food but we were wrong, we just hadn’t gone to the right places! Great tour through both classic and exotic Khmer cuisine, lead by entertaining and knowledge guide Lee. The tour ended with two unexpected highlights, a brief but emotional talk of the Cambodian kingdom in front of the Independence Monument, and a stop at at music venue/bar where we/Lee was greeted from stage when we arrived. One of the best tours I've had
TinTin was a fantastic guide for the evening and gave us a brilliant tour of the local cuisine! He even through in some additional foods I had mentioned. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
We had a very fun evening with Sok. He was a lovely guide and did a great job introducing us to many new dishes. All the food was lovely and would highly recommend everyone to do it as it’s a great way to learn what dishes you like and what to order when you’re new to the country.
The tour was excellent Lee was a great host and guide. His English was very good and his knowledge of the food, the people and the places we ate was very informative. Lee was a lovely and easygoing young man which made having conversation easy and enjoyable. The food was excellent and very filling after 8 stops. The driver was excellent and got us everywhere we needed to go safely. It was a wonderful night soaking up the atmosphere of Phnom Penh, I would highly recommend this tour and Lee as a guide.
