This is a 5-hour experience in Phnom Penh. It is run by Passion Indochina Travel Co.,Ltd., an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Tuol Sleng was a Phnom Penh secondary school that the Khmer Rouge turned into Security Prison 21 in 1975. Of the roughly 12,000 to 20,000 people held there, a dozen or so survived. The classrooms still have the iron bed frames and the photographs the regime took of every prisoner on arrival. Choeung Ek, about 15 kilometres out, is where most were taken to be killed, and its stupa holds some 5,000 skulls; the audio guide there is narrated in part by a survivor and is the reason most visitors manage it at all. Both are done quietly, take about half a day together, and are not suitable for young children.

Mr Pum was very knowledgeable. he talked sensitively about the history of the khmer rouge which must be a difficult subject. He made it interesting, but also shared the sadness and pain the culture experienced at the hands of a communist regime. A must do tour in Phnom Penh but very emotional.

We did the Killing Fields and S21 tour today and had the best experience with our guide, Pum. He was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and explained everything so well throughout the day. He gave us lots of background information at each place, which made the experience so much more meaningful and helped us understand the history on a deeper level. He also made sure we were comfortable, providing us with water and a soft drink, which was really appreciated. We learned so much and would highly recommend this tour, especially with Pum as your guide!
