This is a 4-hour experience in Phnom Penh, built around ភោជនីយដ្ឋាន រំដេង - Romdeng Restaurant, Wat Botum Park and Phnom Penh Night Market. It is run by Siem Reaper Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Khmer food is milder than Thai and sourer than Vietnamese, built on prahok fermented fish paste and on kroeung, a lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and kaffir-lime paste pounded fresh. The dish everyone is taught is fish amok, a coconut curry steamed in a banana-leaf cup until it sets like a custard; lok lak, pepper-seared beef with a lime-and-pepper dipping sauce, is the other. Kampot pepper, which has a protected origin, turns up in both. Classes usually start in a market, where the guide walks you through the fermented fish, the palm sugar and the river fish before anything is cooked.
The price covers Hotel pickup and drop-off, tuk-tuk or Vespa driver, tour guide, food tasting and Soft drink or water. It does not cover Personal expense, so budget for those separately. We were late but Sok waited for us; he had such a great attitude always looking for solutions to work around our requirements. We ate the most authentic Cambodian food on this holiday, cooked by locals the way they eat it. We had an amazing tour with our very knowledeable guide Lee and his colleague tuk tuk driver. Because of the low season, it was just us two. Lee took us to some backstreet streetfood eateries and market stalls and introduced us to some very tasty Khmer food. The food businesses were all family run and some of them had been there since the 1980s. These are the spots that you want to discover as a visitor: frequented by locals and away from the beaten track. We enjoyed gaining the food knowledge of Cambodia through this experience. We got to try all the cuisines that are on offer and branch out of our comfort zone but feeling very safe. Tintin was amazing! He made the food tour so fun and taught me so much about the culture. He even took us to see a fireworks display for the king’s birthday. Only problem was how good at pool he is! We had such a lovely evening ONLY because of his excellent and professional manner

This was a great tour and a fun way to enjoy Cambodian cuisine in Phnom Penh. We were picked up by Tuk Tuk from our hotel and taken to the first of 6 stops, to meet our guide Sok, and the other 3 people on the tour in a small restaurant. We sampled green and red khmer curry with a range of vegetables, then on by tuk tuk to a roadside pancake stop, another restaurant for noodles and beer. A stop for ice cream at the night market another street vendor for beef skewers before finishing off in Bassac Street for drinks and a 'take away' bag of insects (the usual stall was closed apparently).
