Full description
This is a 3-hour experience from Phnom Penh, built around Traditional village and Silk Island. It is run by Vana Adventures, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Phnom Penh sits where the Mekong, the Tonle Sap and the Bassac meet, and the riverfront promenade along Sisowath Quay is where the city walks in the evening. Koh Dach, the silk island, is a short ferry upstream and still has weavers working handlooms under their houses, selling direct. Oudong, 40 kilometres north-west, was the royal capital for more than 250 years until 1866 and its hilltop stupas hold the ashes of kings. The Central Market's art deco dome opened in 1937 and the Russian Market, properly Psar Toul Tom Poung, is the one for silver, silk and knock-offs.

We had a lovely day with our guide. He picked us up from our hotel and first took us on a ferry out to the countryside where we learned about the daily life of Cambodians. We saw houses, he walked us through a market, and took us to a local monastery. We then went to silk island where we learned about how silk products are made, from silkworms to silk products. He also took us to a soybean curd facility and were given the option to taste the soybean curds. Finally, he took us to a local restaurant where he bought a full lunch for all of us. We were not expecting that and we had eaten a big bre
It was truly an incredible experience with our guide, Thong, and our driver. If you’re looking for something authentic and truly local, don’t hesitate to book this tour. It’s a fantastic way to discover Cambodian culture and experience life in the countryside. Thong was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and passionate, sharing lots of interesting insights throughout the day. I highly recommend this experience 100% worth it!

Sok Mon is such an exceptional guide. What an absolutely beautiful rural island, with incredibly kind people, just outside Phnom Penh across the Mekong. I learned so much about the process of making silk, from the mulberry leaves to the life cycle of the silkworms, the dyes, and even had the chance to chat with a few artisans while they were at work. I also learned about ginger versus galangal, local costumes, and enjoyed a wonderful local meal by the river. A must.
De tour was echt geweldig! Onze gids Mr. Tina en onze driver waren echt toppers. We hebben een mooie (privé) tour gehad met de tuktuk 🛺. We hebben een bezoek gebracht aan een weverij en mochten zelfs een handje helpen! Daarna hebben we een boerderij bezocht waar tofu werd gemaakt. Enorm indrukwekkend! Op de terugweg heeft onze gids Mr. Tina ons nog getrakteerd op een heerlijke soep en heeft onze driver ervoor gezorgd dat we weer heelhuids teruggekomen zijn bij ons hotel. Het was een mooie dag!
