Full description
This is a 4-hour experience in Phnom Penh, built around Local restaurant, Wat Botum Park and Wat Ounalom Monastery. It is run by Siem Reaper Travel, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Khmer food is milder than Thai and sourer than Vietnamese, built on prahok fermented fish paste and on kroeung, a lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and kaffir-lime paste pounded fresh. The dish everyone is taught is fish amok, a coconut curry steamed in a banana-leaf cup until it sets like a custard; lok lak, pepper-seared beef with a lime-and-pepper dipping sauce, is the other. Kampot pepper, which has a protected origin, turns up in both. Classes usually start in a market, where the guide walks you through the fermented fish, the palm sugar and the river fish before anything is cooked.

Although the weather wasn’t on our side the cruise was fantastic. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip fun from start to finish. The tuk tuk tour around the city to stop ad various food stops was great. We ended up at a bar for a few beers and a game of pool before we were dropped off at our hotel. The guide was exceptional, he was from siemreapers. He made the night for us, highly recommend this tour.
