Angkor Wat was built in the first half of the 12th century by Suryavarman II as a Hindu temple to Vishnu, later turned to Buddhist use, and it is the largest religious monument on earth at roughly 162 hectares inside its moat. Unlike almost every other Khmer temple it faces west. The outer gallery carries about 600 metres of bas-relief, including the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, and the central towers represent Mount Meru. The upper level has a dress code that is actually enforced: shoulders and knees covered, no vests, or you are turned back at the stairs. An Angkor Pass is required and costs USD 37 for one day, 62 for three and 72 for seven, sold only through Angkor Enterprise; under-12s are free on a passport. The price steps with party size rather than multiplying: 1 traveller is $307, 5 is $371 and 8 is $437. You are quoted the total for your party, not a per-head rate. SARUS CO., LTD runs it. Super activité. Chauffeur attentif, guide excellent. Un be mol- activité annoncé pour 2 jours complets, mais la durée est de 1 jours et demi. Nous avons terminé notre 2ème journée à 11h30. Donc pour nous, temps prévu pour la visite était perdu. Si nous avons été prévenu la veille que l'activité du 2ème jour aller durée que pour la matinée, on aurait pu organiser une autre activité pour l'après-midi. Le jour même, c'était trop tard. Donc, nous avons passé une partie de l'après-midi à l'hôtel, car nous avions déjà visité Siem Reap avant de commencer activité de visite 2 jours de Angkor complex.
