The Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and it reverses direction twice a year: in the monsoon the Mekong pushes water back up the Tonle Sap river and the lake swells several times over, then drains again from about November. The villages on it live with that. Kampong Phluk's stilt houses stand six to ten metres up on their legs, dry underneath in March and wading depth in October; Kampong Khleang is larger, further out and far less visited; Chong Kneas is closest to Siem Reap and the most touristed. Which village works, and whether the boat can reach the flooded forest at all, depends entirely on the month. Priced per person at about $72 each, so a party of 8 comes to $572. I’ll start by saying that my tour guide was EXCELLENT. He spoke great English and was very knowledgeable about Cambodian history, and their culture. I learned a lot, and that was amazing. The silk farm tour was exceptional. It was very interesting to learn how silk is made and to witness the factory in full production. The Artisans Angkor gift shop is also wonderful. I was able to make many purchases for myself as well as my family. As for the Mechrey floating village tour, that was not very well liked. We had to take a tuck tuck for about 20 minutes before we got on the boat to do the floatin
