Full description
This is an 8-hour experience from Siem Reap, built around Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple and Banteay Kdei. It is run by Siem Reap Experiences, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Angkor Wat was built in the first half of the 12th century by Suryavarman II as a Hindu temple to Vishnu, later turned to Buddhist use, and it is the largest religious monument on earth at roughly 162 hectares inside its moat. Unlike almost every other Khmer temple it faces west. The outer gallery carries about 600 metres of bas-relief, including the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, and the central towers represent Mount Meru. The upper level has a dress code that is actually enforced: shoulders and knees covered, no vests, or you are turned back at the stairs. An Angkor Pass is required and costs USD 37 for one day, 62 for three and 72 for seven, sold only through Angkor Enterprise; under-12s are free on a passport.

Tuk Tuk driver Mean Mean was very good. He was a pleasant man and would be waiting at the end of each temple walk. We didn't hire a guide as we just wanted the time to wander by ourselves. Mean took us to the temples that we wanted to see. Cold water was supplied. We have booked another Tuk Tuk ride with him.
