Full description
This is an 8-hour experience from Siem Reap, built around Angkor Wat, Srah Srang and Ta Prohm Temple. It is run by Journey Cambodia, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Sunrise at Angkor Wat is watched from the edge of the northern reflecting pool, where the five towers come up black against the sky and then double in the water. The ticket office opens at 04:30 and Angkor Wat lets people in from 05:00, which is why tours leave Siem Reap around 04:30 for a twenty-minute drive; the sky colours before the sun clears the towers, so arriving at first light is already late for the best of it. Dry season from November to March gives the cleanest skies, while the rains bring cloud that can either kill the sunrise or make it. The pool edge fills early, the southern pool is usually quieter, and a guide who knows which side to stand on is the difference between a photograph and a wall of raised phones.
Pickup is offered from Krong Siem Reap and 57 2 Thnou St; the exact spot and time are agreed with Journey Cambodia once the booking is confirmed, and the option you choose sets whether transport is included.

The guide Kiss was an incredibly upbeat character which really helped with the early start. His English was amazing and when describing the history of the temples he bought the past to life. He was also very helpful with getting the best photos for us. He was genuinely part of our lovely group for a day and we learnt a lot about Cambodian culture from him. Sok was a great guide, very knowledgeable, and answered all my 'dumb tourist' questions about Cambodian culture, history, politics, language, etc., so graciously. The pace was just right, and we had excellent breaks for food, drink, bathrooms and just cooling down at appropriate intervals. I also appreciated having ample time to explore on our own between being guided. Just what I hoped for in a tour. Small group - just half a dozen - made for a great experience overall. Highly recommend!
Fantastic! We were picked up on time and went to Angkor Wat temple to watch the sunrise. We then explored Angkor Wat, and proceeded to have breakfast. After that we explored Ta Prohn and Bayon temple. The temples themselves are amazing but also our tour guide Mr Bun was fantastic!! He really knew his stuff and there wasn’t a question of ours that he wasn’t able to answer. I had been on a tour the day before and hardly learnt anything so I was really glad Mr Bun was able to tell us the history, explain why things were built the way they were, and point out the archeticture which I hadn’t notice
