A half-day trip from Siem Reap that visits Krong Siem Reap and Pearaing Biodiversity Conservation Center. The price covers Transportation by Air Condition Car, Local breakfast with desserts and Cool bottle of water & towels. It does not cover food and drink that not mentioned and appreciation tip, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price. The Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and it reverses direction twice a year: in the monsoon the Mekong pushes water back up the Tonle Sap river and the lake swells several times over, then drains again from about November. The villages on it live with that. Kampong Phluk's stilt houses stand six to ten metres up on their legs, dry underneath in March and wading depth in October; Kampong Khleang is larger, further out and far less visited; Chong Kneas is closest to Siem Reap and the most touristed. Which village works, and whether the boat can reach the flooded forest at all, depends entirely on the month. The price steps with party size rather than multiplying: 1 traveller is $195, 5 is $390 and 8 is $499. You are quoted the total for your party, not a per-head rate. Pitt Angkor Tour runs it. The tour guide was very helpful and well informed and the whole project of setting up a nature reserve to protect the environment and the wildlife has been carried out by a group of volunteers of whom he was one. For this reason alone it seemed worth paying a rather inflated price though how much of it actually finds its way to those who need it most might be hard to establish. We went in early August when there are not many birds around so if you want to see flocks of cranes, pelicans etc it would be better to go in the dry season (November to March). Great tour! I was able to see birds up close and watch the sunrise from the boat. Its clear the local guides know this landscape and birds well. It was really nice to connect with locals who care so much about their local ecology and landscapes! Definitely geeked over our favs. Even got some bird photos as souviners. Plan to eat and bathroom before hand to be ready for about 45 min bumpy drive there and 2.5 hr birding. There are some bathrooms on site but dont expect to be great facilities because they occur in floodplains area where, during rainy season, all infrastructure is largely left alo
