Kampot Countryside: Authentic Khmer Cooking Class
Full description
A 1-hour experience in Siem Reap. The operator sums it up as immerse yourself in the local culture as you cook with a local family. The price covers Market visit to buy fresh supplies, Gather seasonal herbs & vegetables from our garden and Cooking class for three delicious Khmer dishes, including de. It does not cover personal expenses for additional drinks, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price. Khmer food is milder than Thai and sourer than Vietnamese, built on prahok fermented fish paste and on kroeung, a lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and kaffir-lime paste pounded fresh. The dish everyone is taught is fish amok, a coconut curry steamed in a banana-leaf cup until it sets like a custard; lok lak, pepper-seared beef with a lime-and-pepper dipping sauce, is the other. Kampot pepper, which has a protected origin, turns up in both. Classes usually start in a market, where the guide walks you through the fermented fish, the palm sugar and the river fish before anything is cooked. Priced per person at about $39 each, so a party of 7 comes to $273. The price you see on this page is the total for the party size you pick, not a per-head figure to multiply. Eco Lotus Kampot runs it. We book with them directly, so the guide who meets you works for the operator rather than for a reseller.

We had such an incredible experience with Samon. After picking us up from our hotel, he showed us around the local market, explaining all the elements of Cambodian cuisine. He kindly catered for our vegetarian diet, so we picked up some tofu and lots of veggies. Eco Lotus is on a beautiful site just outside the town. The kitchen has been built in a stunning traditional Khmer house, really making the most of the outside space. Across the hours we were with Samon and his team, we made a stir fry, Cambodian red curry and amok. They were absolutely delicious. We learnt so much about the local cuis
delicious food and very immersive market experience, learnt a-lot about khmer cuisine. highly recommend
Samon was a really lovely and friendly guide. He greeted us at the market where we saw all the fresh food that we were going to cook. We then took a tuktuk to his farm where we cooked 3 Khmer dishes (amok curry, Khmer curry and lok lak) they also gave us a tasty dessert! Samon was great at explaining the dishes and how to make them too! We had a really great time, would definitely recommend him to all!
This was an amazing experience! we got taken to a local market and tried some local ingredients as well as picking out the ingredients for our dishes. we then cooked 3 amazing dishes with a lovely local family in a beautiful house in the countryside. the family was very welcoming and we all got to cook our own dishes. the food was soo yummy and they even sent us the recipes at the end of the experience. I could not recommend this experience enough.
Very tasty food and learned to make the spice-mix from scratch. Beautiful house in a natural setting.
This was one of the best cooking classes I've ever done! Samon was an amazing guide and teacher and we had the nicest day. Seeing the market was incredible before heading to the beautiful cooking school surrounded by nature. Highly recommend!
A tasteful and wonderful experience in a rural setting The host was incredibly kind and welcoming, taking us first to a local market where we tasted a few things and learned about traditional Khmer ingredients and spices. We then visited his beautiful countryside home, picked fresh herbs from the garden, and cooked three authentic dishes from scratch. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and the food we made was absolutely delicious. It felt personal, true authentic, and very special. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kampot who wants to learn real Khmer cooking in a peaceful,

our guide was absolutely amazing, toured us around a khmer market to buy fresh ingredients and then welcomed us to his home where we got to pick fresh herbs (lemongrass, galangal etc) from his garden to cook with. such a lovely wholesome experience that was definitely one to remember.
