Khmer Cooking Class at a Local's Home
Full description
This is a 3-hour experience in Siem Reap. It is run by Angkor Wat Travel Tour, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Khmer food is milder than Thai and sourer than Vietnamese, built on prahok fermented fish paste and on kroeung, a lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and kaffir-lime paste pounded fresh. The dish everyone is taught is fish amok, a coconut curry steamed in a banana-leaf cup until it sets like a custard; lok lak, pepper-seared beef with a lime-and-pepper dipping sauce, is the other. Kampot pepper, which has a protected origin, turns up in both. Classes usually start in a market, where the guide walks you through the fermented fish, the palm sugar and the river fish before anything is cooked.
The price covers Hotel pickup and drop-off, local host/guide, Ingredients, 4-course meal and Bottled water. It does not cover Alcoholic drinks, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Was a great experience! Booked on same day and transportation was easy and well organized. We first went to a local market where King Kong told us about the different ingredients and how the local people live. We then went to the cooking class and Soriya walked us through everything (which is helpful as I’m not very good). she also took plenty of pictures of us. The food was lovely and would recommend highly!
King Kong was a great instructor and very friendly. Great value for money would highly recommend
We had an amazing time at this cooking class. Kong was very friendly and great at showing us around the market and Sivorn so lovely and very engaging, and helped us to make very yummy food! She took lots of photos for us and gave us the recipes afterward :)
King Kong was a very nice and friendly guide, enjoyed the cooking class
There was no option to give this experience 6 stars! But if I could, I would! From the pick up to the markets to the actual cooking experience, we had such a great time! Seeing the market and how the locals do everyday life was such a beautiful experience! King Kong you out did yourself! You were funny, informative, engaging which made our time beyond enjoyable! I’d highly recommend booking this cooking class if you want to experience local culture and cuisine!
Sivorn was a great teacher. she explained everything very nice, it was easy to cook after listening to her commands. great chef. delicious food, first time in Cambodia, and it was the perfect intro. the amok fish was very tasteful, soft and tender, love the spices. rolling fresh spring rolls was a fun activity. and the Curry was very good also. for dessert I tried a banana un coconut and tapioca, a new taste and mix for a dessert to me. great! top class! also Khong it's very nice guy who explained everything in the market at took as for a local walk in the market
