This is a 10-hour experience in Siem Reap. It is run by BREKSA TRAVEL, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Banteay Srei lies 37 kilometres north-east of the main Angkor group and is carved in a pink sandstone that holds detail no other Khmer temple keeps: the lintels and pediments are cut deep enough to throw real shadow, which is why it is called the citadel of women. It is small, it was consecrated in 967 to Shiva, and it was built by a brahmin rather than a king. Because it is out on its own it is usually paired with Kbal Spean, the river of a thousand lingas, where Shiva carvings lie in and under the stream bed and the walk up is about 1.5 kilometres of forest path. Both close earlier than the central temples, so they are morning stops.

We had an amazing day with our guide Mr. Chy and our driver Leap. From the moment Chy arrived at our house for pick up we knew we made the right choice. His English is excellent, he shared just enough information at every stop to give us an idea of what we were seeing and then was happy to answer any questions or provide more details based on our interests. We never felt rushed when we wanted to spend a little more time at one place we could when we were done quickly at a different place we moved on. Our driver's attention to detail was amazing, he constantly made sure we had enough cold water

A big thank you to mr Jan and mr Taa for an incredible day! Beng Melea and Bantea Srei were particularly special - thanks to mr Jan’s outstanding knowledge of the sites, and photography (and video!) skills. The village visit for palm cakes was a lovely touch too, and I also really enjoyed swimming in the waterfall. An absolute must do when visiting Siem Reap!
