Tonle Sap lake Sunset and floating village, Kompung Phluk in Siem Reap

A half-day trip from Siem Reap that visits Krong Siem Reap, Bus/coach, River boat and Kampong Phluk. The Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and it reverses direction twice a year: in the monsoon the Mekong pushes water back up the Tonle Sap river and the lake swells several times over, then drains again from about November. The villages on it live with that. Kampong Phluk's stilt houses stand six to ten metres up on their legs, dry underneath in March and wading depth in October; Kampong Khleang is larger, further out and far less visited; Chong Kneas is closest to Siem Reap and the most touristed. Which village works, and whether the boat can reach the flooded forest at all, depends entirely on the month. Priced per person at about $32 each, so a party of 8 comes to $260.
