Eine halbtaegige Tour ab Phnom Penh, die Phnom Penh, Bus/coach und Choeung Ek and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum besucht.
Tuol Sleng war eine weiterfuehrende Schule in Phnom Penh, die die Roten Khmer 1975 in das Sicherheitsgefaengnis S-21 umwandelten. Von den schaetzungsweise 12.000 bis 20.000 dort festgehaltenen Menschen ueberlebte etwa ein Dutzend. Die Klassenzimmer haben noch die eisernen Bettgestelle und die Fotografien, die das Regime bei der Ankunft von jedem Gefangenen machte. Choeung Ek, etwa 15 Kilometer entfernt, ist der Ort, an den die meisten zur Toetung gebracht wurden, und sein Stupa bewahrt rund 5.000 Schaedel; der Audioguide dort wird teilweise von einer Ueberlebenden erzaehlt und ist der Grund, warum die meisten Besucher es ueberhaupt durchstehen. Beide Orte werden still besucht, dauern zusammen etwa einen halben Tag und sind nicht fuer kleine Kinder geeignet.

Martin was a fantastic tour guide. Bonus points because he made sure I was comfortable & hydrated throughout the entire trip. Learning Cambodia through his eyes & storytelling was a remarkable experience. He is sensitive & respectful towards history which I really appreciate. Prepare your minds! Chhim our tourguide was a pleasure to spend the day with . His historic knowledge was very good and he shared many detailed facts and figures. Whilst the main content was harrowing his clear delivery was respectful sharing his clear emotion with ours. This tour was particularly of interest to my wife and I ,as we until now only had the story via the Western media as we were growing up. Excellent tour that led us through one of Cambodia’s darkest periods. Martin patiently explained all the factors that led to the emergence of the Khemer Rouge and the consequences for Cambodia. Drawing on experiences within his greater family it was a fascinating and sobering experience. Thoroughly recommend it.
