Eine halbtaegige Tour ab Siem Reap, die Krong Siem Reap und Beng Mealea and Banteay Srei besucht.

Banteay Srei liegt 37 Kilometer nordoestlich der Hauptgruppe von Angkor und ist aus rosa Sandstein geschnitzt, der Details bewahrt, die kein anderer Khmer-Tempel hat: Die Tuerstuerze und Giebel sind tief genug geschnitten, um echten Schatten zu werfen, daher der Name Zitadelle der Frauen. Er ist klein, wurde 967 Shiva gewidmet und von einem Brahmanen statt von einem Koenig errichtet. Da er abgelegen liegt, wird er meist mit Kbal Spean kombiniert, dem Fluss der tausend Lingas, wo Shiva-Schnitzereien im und unter dem Flussbett liegen und der Aufstieg etwa 1,5 Kilometer Waldweg betraegt. Beide schliessen frueher als die zentralen Tempel, daher sind es Vormittagshalte.

Excellent tour & tour guide who shared fascinating history about the temple’s origins, their intricate & detailed carvings, and the stories & folklore behind them. It was also good to see more of rural & interior Cambodia during the journey through the countryside to arrive at the temple sites. Highly recommend.
