The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Meet your licensed guide at the trailhead in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, for a gear check and briefing.

Day 1, midday

Traverse to the Hoei Crater

Leave the Fujinomiya trail and cross into the crater torn open by the 1707 eruption.

Day 1, afternoon

Onto the Prince Route

Join the Gotemba side of the mountain and climb steadily on open cinder toward the hut.

Osunabashiri descent

Drop down the deep sand-running slope and finish back at the trailhead.

Detaillierter Ablauf

Day 1, morning

Meet at the Fujinomiya Trail 5th Station

Your licensed Fuji guide meets you at 2,380m on the Shizuoka side. Transport to the trailhead is not included, so allow time for the mountain bus or your own vehicle.

Day 1, late morning

Briefing and gear check

Layers, water, food and pace are reviewed. The guide sets the slow rhythm that keeps altitude sickness at bay over a long two days.

Day 1, midday

Traverse toward Hoei

The route leaves the Fujinomiya trail and cuts across the southern flank on loose volcanic ground with the Pacific behind you.

Day 1, early afternoon

Hoei Crater

Walk into the crater complex left by the 1707 eruption: scoured walls, deep cinder and almost nothing growing on it three centuries later.

Day 1, afternoon

The Prince Route climb

Join the line the Crown Prince took in 2008 and climb onto the Gotemba trail, the emptiest of Fuji's four routes.

Day 1, evening

Mountain hut for the night

Reach the hut, eat and rest early. Huts are communal sleeping platforms; lodging and meals are payable separately on the day.

Day 2, dawn

Sunrise from the hut

First light over the cloud sea, seen from shelter rather than from a wind-scoured crater rim after a 3am start.

Day 2, morning

Upper Gotemba trail

Climb the last section in daylight toward roughly 3,700m, on cinder slopes that steepen as you go.

Day 2, midday

High point and turnaround

Time at the top of the route before starting down, weather and the group's condition permitting.

Day 2, afternoon

Osunabashiri sand run

The Gotemba descent is a vast slope of deep volcanic sand you can stride down in long steps. Gaiters keep it out of your boots.

Day 2, late afternoon

Finish at the trailhead

The tour ends back at the Fujinomiya 5th Station, where it began.

Häufige Fragen

The price does not cover mountain hut lodging and meals, mountain entry / climbing fees, personal expenses (toilets, food, souvenirs), transportation to and from the starting location. Everything it does cover is listed in full on this page, so if something is not on that list, budget for it separately.
Expect uneven ground and some climbing, and mud after rain. Trainers with grip are the minimum and proper shoes are better. The pace follows the group, so tell your guide early if you want it slower rather than at the point you are struggling.
Fujisan Curator. We book with them directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can confirm your place with the operator before taking it as final.
We confirm your booking with the operator before we treat it as final, and we need at least one day's notice outside India. Once it is confirmed you get the meeting point, the time and a contact number for the day. If the operator cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Only during the official season, roughly early July to early September — exact dates are announced each year per route. Outside it the mountain huts close, and climbing becomes a serious mountaineering proposition rather than a hike. A mandatory climbing fee and a daily cap now apply on the Yoshida route, with the other routes following. Full detail in our guide to climbing Mount Fuji.
Counterintuitively, winter — the cold, dry air gives the clearest views, while humid summer haze often hides the mountain entirely. That means the climbing season is also the worst viewing season. Where and when to look is covered in our Mount Fuji viewpoints guide.
An Odakyu pass covering the whole Hakone loop — Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, Lake Ashi boats and buses — for less than buying the legs separately. How the loop works and which direction to travel it is in getting around Hakone.
It varies. Many traditional baths still refuse tattoos, some now allow them with cover stickers, and a private bath (kashikiri) is the reliable workaround. Bathing etiquette and how to find tattoo-friendly options are in our Hakone onsen guide.
It was listed in 2013 for its influence on art, literature and pilgrimage — not for its geology. That is why the listing includes places like Oshino Hakkai and the Sengen shrines, not just the peak itself. Background in our climbing Mount Fuji guide.
Two days lets you do the loop without rushing and still soak properly in an onsen — a single day works but means moving constantly. Our Hakone 2-day itinerary maps it out hour by hour.
Most Hakone and Mt. Fuji private tours here are priced for the whole party, not per traveller — the operator is providing a vehicle and a guide, so a group of four pays the same as a couple. The exceptions are the group summit climbs, which are genuinely per person. Each tour page states which model applies.
