Hokkaido ist Japans nördliche Insel, ein anderes Klima und ein anderer Maßstab: Sapporo ist seine Stadt, mit dem Biermuseum, der Ramen-Gasse und dem Februar-Schneefestival; Otaru, 40 Minuten entfernt, hat den Kanal und die Glas- und Spieluhrgeschäfte; Noboribetsu sind die Thermalquellen des Höllentals; der Toya-See und der Shikotsu-See sind Caldera-Seen; und Biei und Furano im Zentrum sind die Blumenfelder und der Lavendel im Juli.
