Der Unabhaengigkeitsplatz ist der erste Stopp und der unmittelbarst politische. Der Pavillon wurde zur Erinnerung an die Machtuebergabe durch die Briten im Februar 1948 erbaut, einer Audienzhalle der letzten Kandy-Koenige nachempfunden, und ist von Steinloewen und der Statue des ersten Premierministers umringt. In der Naehe ist die Bandaranaike-Gedenkkonferenzhalle ein Stueck Diplomatie der 1970er Jahre in Beton, von China gestiftet und immer noch der wichtigste Staatsort der Stadt.

Der Viharamahadevi-Park gibt Ihnen die gruene Haelfte des zentralen Colombo, von den Briten als Victoria Park angelegt und nach einer Koenigin aus den Chroniken von Anuradhapura umbenannt. Der laengste Stopp ist der Gangaramaya-Tempel, wo etwa fuenfzig Minuten nicht uebertrieben sind: der Komplex mischt sri-lankische, thailaendische, indische und chinesische Architektur in einem Gelaende, und seine Museumsraeume sind mit gestifteten Objekten vollgepackt, von Jade-Buddhas bis zu einem Oldtimer-Rolls-Royce.

Pettah schliesst die Besichtigung ab. Die Tour fuehrt durch die Marktstrassen statt lange zu halten, was ausreicht, um zu sehen, wie das Viertel funktioniert, wobei jede Strasse einem einzigen Handel gewidmet ist, hinter dem rot-weiss gestreiften Backsteinmauerwerk der Jami-Ul-Alfar-Moschee.

Das Mittagessen ist der Grund, warum viele Menschen dies buchen.
