Die Thermopylae Sierra lief vor Colombo auf Grund und kam nie wieder frei. Ein Teil des Rumpfes steht noch immer ueber dem Wasser, was dieses Wrack zu einem der sehr wenigen in Sri Lanka macht, an das man direkt an der Oberflaeche heranfahren kann, statt dafuer zu tauchen. Diese Tour ist eine gefuehrte Jetski-Fahrt hinaus und zurueck entlang der Kueste von Mount Lavinia.

Sie beginnen an Land mit einem Briefing: Gas und Lenkung, die Kill-Cord am Handgelenk, wie die Maschine abbiegt, wenn Sie den Gashebel loslassen, und die Regeln, um in Formation hinter dem Guide zu bleiben. Kein Fuehrerschein ist notwendig und keine Vorerfahrung wird erwartet, aber Sie muessen dem Leitfahrer folgen, denn die Strecke kreuzt Gewaesser, die von Fischerbooten aus Colombo genutzt werden.

Die Fahrt zum Wrack dauert je nach Meer etwa fuenfundzwanzig bis dreissig Minuten in jede Richtung. Zwei Stunden decken das Ganze ab: das Briefing, das Ausruesten, die Hinfahrt, die Zeit am Wrack, die Rueckfahrt und das Abtrocknen. Die tatsaechliche Zeit auf der Maschine ist deutlich kuerzer, und es lohnt sich, mit dieser Erwartung hineinzugehen.

Der Seezustand bestimmt hier alles. Die trockeneren Monate von etwa November bis April bieten das ruhigste Wasser und die besten Chancen, planmaessig zu fahren. Waehrend des Suedwestmonsuns, etwa von Mai bis September, zwingt die Daenung an dieser Kueste haeufig zur Verschiebung der Fahrten, und ein verantwortungsbewusster Betreiber wird eher absagen, als einen Jetski in eine schlechte See zu schicken.

Sie fahren mit einer Schwimmweste, und der Guide bleibt die ganze Zeit in Sichtweite. Rechnen Sie damit, grundlich nass zu werden.
