Bitte vor der Buchung beachten: Die Abteilung fuer Wildschutz hat die Bloecke 1 und 2 des Yala-Nationalparks vom 14. September bis 15. Oktober 2026 wegen Trockenheit geschlossen, daher koennen Safaris in diesen Bloecken an diesen Daten nicht stattfinden. Die Bloecke 3 bis 6 bleiben geoeffnet, und Udawalawe und Wilpattu sind nicht betroffen; fuer Reisen in diesem Zeitraum kontaktieren wir Sie, um die Safari in einen dieser Parks oder auf ein Datum nach dem 15. Oktober zu verlegen. Udawalawe ist der staerkere Park fuer Elefanten; Wilpattu bietet ruhigere Leopardensichtungen.

Von Nuwara Eliya zur Region Yala geht es von 1.900 Metern auf Meereshoehe in rund fuenf Stunden, und Ella liegt fast genau auf der Haelfte. Dort anzuhalten, statt vorbeizufahren, macht den Unterschied zwischen einem Transfer und einem echten Tag.

Die Route verlaesst das Teeland und steigt durch Bandarawela und Ella ab, wo sich die Landschaft durch die Ella Gap zur suedlichen Ebene hin oeffnet. Die Neun-Bogen-Bruecke ist der Hauptstopp: 91 Meter Steinviadukt, 24 Meter ueber einer Schlucht, errichtet waehrend des Ersten Weltkriegs in solidem Mauerwerk, weil der dafuer vorgesehene Stahl fuer Europa requiriert wurde.

Ella Rock steht fuer diejenigen auf dem Programm, die es moechten, obwohl es ein dreistuendiger Hin- und Rueckweg auf unmarkiertem Gelaende ist und die Zugabe diesen Tag sehr lang macht; die meisten nehmen nur die Bruecke und die Wasserfaelle und sparen die Wanderung fuer einen Aufenthalt statt fuer einen Transfer auf.

Die Ravana-Wasserfaelle, eine breite Kaskade an der Strasse unterhalb von Ella, sind der letzte Bergland-Stopp vor dem Abstieg auf die Ebene.

Sie erreichen Tissamaharama oder die Region Yala am spaeten Nachmittag, rechtzeitig, um sich vor einer Pirschfahrt im Morgengrauen am naechsten Tag einzurichten.
