Ein rekonstruiertes Oasendorf auf der Hafenmole, mit einem aktiven Souq, Metallhandwerkern, Toepfern und Webern, und dem klarsten Blick auf die Skyline von Abu Dhabi auf der anderen Seite des Wassers.

Das Dorf ist das Gegengewicht zu allem anderen in der Stadt. Abu Dhabi ist Glas und Marmor; hier sind es Barasti-Huetten aus Palmwedeln, ein Falaj-Bewaesserungskanal, ein Lager und eine Moschee, angelegt wie eine Kuestensiedlung vor der Oelzeit.

Die Handwerker arbeiten wirklich, sie spielen keine Rolle vor. Der Schmied stellt tatsaechlich Dinge her, die Toepferscheibe dreht sich, und gewebt wird am Webstuhl statt in einer Vitrine.

Ein Guide macht hier den Unterschied. Ohne ihn wirkt es wie eine angenehme Rekonstruktion; mit ihm wird es zu einer Erklaerung, wie die Menschen an dieser Kueste wirklich lebten: woher das Wasser kam, wie die Perlenfischerei funktionierte, und warum die Gebaeude so geformt sind.
