Fossil Rock ist ein Jebel hinter Al Madam, etwa eine Stunde von Dubai entfernt, und der Sand dort hat eine andere Farbe und Konsistenz als die roten Duenen der Standard-Safaris.
Der Felsen ist genau das, wonach er klingt: ein Kalksteinvorsprung voller Meeresfossilien, abgelagert, als diese ganze Region unter einem flachen Meer lag. Sie koennen Muscheln und Korallenfragmente von einem Boden aufsammeln, der heute der trockenste Ort ist, an dem die meisten Besucher je gestanden haben, was ein besserer Grund ist, in einer Wueste zu sein, als ein Buffet.
Die Buggys sind die Art, hinueberzukommen. Sie fahren selbst, mit einem vorausfahrenden Guide und zuerst einem Briefing, ueber Duenen, die fester und steiler sind als die touristischen Abschnitte naeher an der Stadt.
Das passt zu Leuten, die schon eine Standard-Safari gemacht haben und mehr Fahren und weniger Shows wollten, hier gibt es keinen Camp-Abend, keine Tanoura, keine Buffet-Schlange. Es ist eine Fahrt und eine Landschaft.
Achtung: koerperlich anstrengend und sehr staubig. Geschlossene Schuhe, Sonnenbrille, und Kleidung, die ruiniert werden darf. Nicht geeignet bei Ruecken- oder Nackenproblemen.
Am besten in den kuehleren Monaten und am besten frueh, es ist exponiertes Gelaende ohne jeden Schatten auf der Strecke.
