Port City es la parte mas nueva de Colombo, una franja de tierra recuperada del mar junto a Galle Face en la ultima decada, y sus aguas protegidas se han convertido en el lugar mas facil de la ciudad para salir a remar. Esta sesion le da una hora en canoa con un instructor a mano.

Una canoa se rema con una sola pala en lugar de la pala doble de un kayak, lo que significa que la tecnica es un poco diferente y tarda unos minutos en asentarse. El instructor cubre primero lo basico en tierra: como sentarse, como sujetar la pala, la brazada hacia adelante y el barrido que le hace girar, y que hacer en el caso poco probable de que termine en el agua. Despues de eso, la hora es suya para remar.

El agua aqui esta protegida del mar abierto, por lo que las condiciones son calmadas y predecibles de una forma que no lo es la playa frente a Galle Face. Eso lo convierte en un lugar razonable para probar el piragüismo por primera vez, y uno sencillo para traer a niños mayores. Los chalecos de flotacion se usan en todo momento y el personal se queda en el agua.

El entorno es inusual: rema con el perfil urbano de Colombo en un lado y nuevas construcciones en el otro, en una parte de la ciudad que no existia hace una decada. La ultima hora de la tarde es el momento agradable, cuando el calor ha bajado y la luz sobre las torres merece una camara.

Es una actividad corta y autocontenida en lugar de un tour de la ciudad, y combina bien con un paseo por Galle Face Green despues para los carritos de comida de la noche.
