Colombo no es un destino de arrecife, y esta sesion es honesta sobre lo que es: un breve buceo con tubo supervisado en las aguas protegidas frente al paseo maritimo recuperado de Port City, dirigido a personas que quieren probar una mascara y un tubo por primera vez o llenar una hora en la costa sin salir de la ciudad.

Un guia le ajusta la mascara, le muestra como vaciarla y como respirar por el tubo sin tragar la mitad del Oceano Indico, luego lo lleva en un pequeño grupo sobre los bajios. A nadie se le pide bucear libre ni nadar ninguna distancia. Si nunca ha metido la cara en el mar antes, esta es la introduccion mas suave posible, y el guia permanece en el agua con usted todo el tiempo.

Lo que vea depende por completo del dia. El agua frente a Colombo lleva sedimentos del puerto y los rios, por lo que la visibilidad oscila entre decente y mala. En una mañana clara vera pequeños peces de arrecife y de escombros sobre la estructura que ha crecido en los rompeolas. En una turbia, obtendra un chapuzon y una leccion. Quien espere jardines de coral deberia reservar en la costa este en su lugar, y el operador dira lo mismo.

La ventaja de esta sesion es la comodidad y la temporada. Esta a minutos de los hoteles del centro de Colombo, funciona en turnos cortos y fijos que encajan en un dia en la ciudad, y no necesita certificacion, formulario medico ni experiencia.

Las condiciones son mejores en los meses mas secos, de noviembre a abril aproximadamente. Durante el monzon del suroeste, de mayo a septiembre aproximadamente, el oleaje en esta costa aumenta y las sesiones se posponen con frecuencia por motivos de seguridad en lugar de hacerse en aguas malas.

Traiga traje de baño, espere volver a tierra en una hora, y tratelo como una muestra en lugar del evento principal de un viaje a Sri Lanka.
