La mayoria de la gente llega a Sri Lanka planeando bucear en el sur o frente a Trincomalee, y nunca descubre que Colombo misma se asienta sobre uno de los tramos mas interesantes de buceo en pecios de la isla. Siglos de navegacion hacia el puerto dejaron un cementerio disperso en el fondo marino a corta distancia en bote de la ciudad, y eso es lo que este viaje viene a ver.

La inmersion parte desde el paseo maritimo de Colombo. Tras una charla informativa que cubre el sitio, el perfil de profundidad, las señales manuales y el plan del dia, el bote lo lleva a un pecio elegido segun las condiciones del dia. El equipo toma esa decision por la mañana, no de antemano, porque la visibilidad y la corriente frente a Colombo cambian rapidamente y el sitio mas seguro no es siempre el mismo.

Los pecios aqui suelen estar en aguas calidas con una estructura colonizada durante decadas, asi que vera vida de peces reunida alrededor de los bordes duros en lugar de los jardines de coral de la costa este. Espere bancos de peces de arrecife, peces leon y morenas escondidos en el blindaje, y algun visitante mas grande de vez en cuando. El interes esta en la estructura misma y en como el mar la ha tomado.

La actividad esta guiada todo el tiempo por un profesional del buceo. Los buceadores certificados deben traer su tarjeta; si no esta certificado, el equipo puede realizar la inmersion como una inmersion de introduccion supervisada dentro de limites poco profundos, asi que indique su nivel de experiencia al reservar para que el plan y el equipo correctos esten listos.

El buceo frente a Colombo es estacional. El monzon del suroeste, de mayo a septiembre aproximadamente, empuja oleaje y sedimentos a esta costa, y las mejores condiciones suelen caer en los meses mas secos, de noviembre a abril aproximadamente.

Calcule unas dos horas de puerta a puerta para el trayecto en bote, la inmersion y el regreso. No vuele dentro de las dieciocho horas siguientes al buceo.
