Wilpattu es el parque nacional mas grande de Sri Lanka y el mas tranquilo de los parques de leopardos. Mientras que Yala puede reunir decenas de jeeps alrededor de un solo avistamiento, Wilpattu cubre mucho mas terreno con muchos menos vehiculos, asi que un leopardo aqui suele ser solo para usted. La contrapartida es honesta: el bosque denso de matorral esconde bien a los animales, y puede conducir una hora entre avistamientos.
El parque toma su nombre y su caracter de los villus, lagos naturales de agua de lluvia bordeados de arena dispersos por el bosque. Los animales acuden a los villus a beber, por lo que la ruta del safari se mueve de uno a otro. Los osos perezosos son una posibilidad real aqui, particularmente en junio y julio cuando madura la fruta de palu y suben a por ella. Leopardos, ciervos moteados, sambares, bufalos de agua, cocodrilos de pantano, jabalies y una larga lista de aves residentes y migratorias completan el resto.
Este es un viaje privado, asi que el jeep y el rastreador son suyos. Eso importa mas de lo que parece. Significa que puede sentarse en un villu y esperar en lugar de ser movido, y que el conductor puede seguir llamadas de alarma en lugar de un circuito fijo.
Sea realista sobre el dia. Wilpattu esta a unos 180 kilometros al norte de Colombo y el trayecto dura unas tres horas y media en cada direccion, asi que la recogida es antes del amanecer y volvera tarde. Contando el viaje, el recorrido del parque y el almuerzo, esto es un dia de doce a catorce horas. Si prefiere no hacerlo de una sola vez, una noche cerca de la entrada del parque lo convierte en un viaje mucho mejor.
Las tarifas de entrada y el almuerzo ya estan cubiertos, lo que elimina la habitual busqueda de efectivo en la taquilla del parque.
Los meses mas secos, de febrero a octubre aproximadamente, ofrecen la mejor observacion de fauna, ya que los animales se concentran junto al agua. El parque cierra ocasionalmente secciones tras fuertes lluvias.

Perfect day, my guide Nelum was very nice, he was on time and a good driver, he found a leopard up in the trees so I got some realy good pictures.
We were able to see a lot of animals, even a leopard from a distance, so we were very lucky and our driver responded to our wishes, it was a very successful trip. And we also drove away from the mass tourism, except for the leopard and bear, then more and more came.
Our driver Raveen was very polite & knowledgeable. The drive was very comfortable to the national park. Our safari jeep driver did his best to show us as many animals as possible and was quick to spot hidden birds & animals. Then we stopped for a very nice lunch at Wilpattu Coco Hut Village Foods - the owner was very friendly & the food was delicious & plentiful.
Great experience, organization was perfect. we saw 3 leopards , elephants , crocodiles and many other animals. highly recommended !
Had a really great day In the morning at 4:30 a.m., the driver (Emila) picked us up and we went to Wilpattu National Park. At the park, we were paired with another driver for the safari. Emila also came with us. We can't say anything other than that we had a really good safari. The safari driver and Emila were both really good. There was room for information, but he also made sure we saw as many animals as possible. It's really nice that he doesn't just stick to the main path, but also takes the side roads. Highly recommended!
The driver was very friendly and drove very smoothly. The Jeep driver was also very nice; in addition, a national park guide was present, who could tell us a lot about the animals in the park. The included lunch at a buffet restaurant was also okay. We didn’t see many animals because there had been a storm the night before, and many areas of the park were impassable. Overall, it was a great tour; however, for the price, we probably wouldn’t book it again—although it was certainly fair for the service provided!
