Tenga en cuenta antes de reservar: el Departamento de Conservacion de Vida Silvestre ha cerrado los bloques 1 y 2 del Parque Nacional de Yala del 14 de septiembre al 15 de octubre de 2026 por sequia, por lo que los safaris en esos bloques no pueden realizarse en esas fechas. Los bloques 3 a 6 permanecen abiertos, y Udawalawe y Wilpattu no se ven afectados; para viajes dentro de ese periodo le contactaremos para trasladar el safari a uno de esos parques o a una fecha posterior al 15 de octubre. Udawalawe es el parque mas fuerte para elefantes; Wilpattu ofrece avistamientos de leopardos mas tranquilos.

De Nuwara Eliya a la region de Yala se desciende de 1.900 metros al nivel del mar en unas cinco horas, y Ella se encuentra casi exactamente a mitad de camino. Detenerse alli en lugar de pasar de largo es la diferencia entre un traslado y un dia.

La ruta deja el pais del te y desciende por Bandarawela y Ella, donde el paisaje se abre a traves del Ella Gap hacia la llanura sur. El puente de los nueve arcos es la parada principal: 91 metros de viaducto de piedra a 24 metros sobre un desfiladero, construido durante la Primera Guerra Mundial en mamposteria solida porque el acero previsto para el fue requisado para Europa.

Ella Rock figura en el itinerario para quienes lo deseen, aunque es una caminata de ida y vuelta de tres horas por terreno sin señalizar, y añadirla convierte esto en un dia muy largo; la mayoria toma el puente y las cascadas y deja la caminata para una estancia en lugar de un traslado.

Las cascadas de Ravana, una amplia caida de agua junto a la carretera debajo de Ella, son la ultima parada de montaña antes del descenso a la llanura.

Usted llega a Tissamaharama o a la region de Yala al final de la tarde, a tiempo para instalarse antes de un safari al amanecer a la mañana siguiente.
