Una noche en Bai Tu Long, la bahía que las licencias mantienen tranquila.

Hay tres bahías en este paisaje declarado por la UNESCO, y forman un solo karst hundido continuo dividido por la administración y no por la geología. Ha Long propiamente dicha carga con casi toda la flota de cruceros. Bai Tu Long se extiende hacia el nordeste en dirección a la frontera china, y el número de barcos con licencia para trabajar allí está limitado: así que sigue realmente vacía de una manera que Ha Long no conoce desde hace veinte años.

El nombre forma parte de una pareja. Ha Long significa el dragón que desciende, la madre enviada a defender Vietnam y cuyo jade escupido se convirtió en las islas. Bai Tu Long es el lugar donde sus hijos descendieron tras ella.

La cueva de Thien Canh Son está en una isla pequeña a la que se llega con una subida corta, y esa es la razón de que el itinerario pase por allí: cámaras de estalactitas que reciben un puñado de barcos al día en lugar de la cola que se forma en Sung Sot, en la bahía principal.

Vung Vieng es un poblado pesquero flotante, familias que viven en balsas con corrales de peces debajo, visitado en barca de remos y no a motor para que la visita siga siendo tranquila.

El kayak sale del propio barco, en agua abrigada entre los karsts, y así se entra en las aberturas bajas por donde no pasa un casco de crucero.

La noche a bordo es lo que lo cambia todo. Los barcos de día se marchan al final de la tarde y vuelven después del amanecer, y Bai Tu Long ya está más vacía que Ha Long de partida.

The price does not cover limousine bus from hanoi/ninh binh - ha long port or return (us$13/pax/way), beauty spa services, other beverages, tips and personal expenses and surcharge on christmas 24/12; new year 31/12. Everything it does cover is listed in full on this page, so if something is not on that list, budget for it separately.
Overnight cruises sleep on board; day cruises do not. Cabins on the boats we book are private with an ensuite bathroom, and the grade of boat is stated in the option you choose rather than left vague. Bay conditions occasionally force an itinerary change, which the operator decides on the morning and is not something we can promise around.
