Hanói tiene mil años y es a la vez una capital colonial francesa, las dos cosas al mismo tiempo: las 36 calles del Barrio Antiguo, cada una con el nombre del gremio que comerciaba allí, el lago de la Espada Restituida en su centro, el Templo de la Literatura de 1070, el mausoleo donde yace expuesto Ho Chi Minh (solo por las mañanas, cerrado lunes y viernes y dos meses cada otoño) y el barrio francés arbolado, de villas y Ópera. Los cafés de la Train Street, donde el tren pasa a un metro de las mesas, abren y cierran según cambian de opinión las autoridades. El café al huevo se inventó aquí en 1946, el bun cha es la comida y el teatro de marionetas de agua junto al lago es el plan de la noche. Hanói está fresca y gris de diciembre a febrero y calurosa de mayo a septiembre; octubre y noviembre son los meses.

Our instructor, Ben, truly made the trip special—he was incredibly friendly, caring, and had a great energy that brought the whole group together. The tour is really good with beautiful scenery and lots of stops, and the jeep was really comfortable. Our guide Tony (Toan) was excellent, giving good information and sorting out any problems, and our driver Thanh was a great driver and I felt really safe. What lets the tour down is the accommodation. The first night in a hotel was good, but the second saw two of us placed in rooms directly off the dining room, where around 50 people (from other homestays) were eating and then doing karaoke until late. Rondrijden in een jeep is leuk, maar de homestays waren ondermaats. Vuile lakens en tweede homestay geen verwarming ondanks het koude weer. Voor de betaalde prijs kunnen er betere overnachtingen worden voorzien, vooral omdat de gemiddelde hotelprijs zeer laag is. De gids Hoang is zeer gedienstig en vriendelijk. Hij geeft steeds voldoende info tijdens de toer. Ook de chauffeur Yien is heel vriendelijk.
Amazing trip. Our guide Toan AKA Tony was brilliant. Our driver was really friendly and an excellent driver. I had booked the luxury jeep and this didn’t disappoint. The accommodation was surprisingly good. Our second one had a brilliant pool. And Karaoke entertainment.
