The price does not cover gratuity for the tour guide and ha giang border permit fee 10$. Everything it does cover is listed in full on this page, so if something is not on that list, budget for it separately.
Most day treks are 10 to 15 km on village paths, steep and muddy after rain, done in trainers or light boots. Local Hmong or Dao women guide and set an easy pace. Bring a rain jacket, a warm layer from November to March, cash for the villages, and a small bag; homestays provide mattresses, blankets and dinner. Leave the big luggage at your hotel in town.
