Sa Pa está a 1.600 metros en las montañas Hoang Lien, cerca de la frontera china: una estación de montaña francesa de los años veinte que hoy es la base para hacer trekking por los valles en terrazas de las aldeas hmong, dao y giay. La caminata clásica baja desde el pueblo por Cat Cat o Y Linh Ho hasta Lao Chai y Ta Van, a lo largo del valle de Muong Hoa, de cinco a seis horas, con comida en una casa del pueblo y, en la versión de dos días, noche en un homestay; la mayoría de los trekkings los guían mujeres hmong de la zona, y los senderos quedan embarrados después de la lluvia. El Fansipan, el pico más alto de Indochina con 3.143 metros, se sube en 15 minutos de teleférico o en dos días a pie. Las terrazas están inundadas y como espejos en mayo y junio, y doradas en septiembre; de diciembre a febrero hace frío, hay niebla a menudo y de vez en cuando nieva. El mercado dominical de Bac Ha, a dos horas, es el gran mercado de los hmong de las flores.

Had an absolutely lovely time seeing the sights around Sapa as well as meeting Su and the rest of his family on the two day trek. The walk while challenging at parts was kept at a manageable pace for everyone. Views along the walk were stunning and he was able to offer so much insight into the local culture and landscape answering any random question thrown at him. Truly an unforgettable experience, we were treated like family at the home stay and the food was amazing. Cannot recommend highly enough.
It was absolutely incredible!! 🤩 We spent two wonderful days with Su and his friend Sang, going on a two-day trek through the mountains, rice paddies, and various villages. We learned so much about the region, its flora and fauna, and its culture! The hospitality was incredible; we ate very well and slept very comfortably at Su and his family's home! I highly recommend it if you want to experience something truly unique and authentic 👍
C’est notre meilleure activité au Vietnam. Particulièrement grâce à Su et sa femme Vang qui ont était les meilleurs guide rencontré depuis le début de notre voyage de 30 jours. Il parlent parfaitement anglais, nous ont expliquer leur culture, la conversion était facile et intéressant en plus de nous faire visiter les alentours. C’était magnifique, on était au milieu des rizières. Ils nous ont réservé un super accueil le soir, on a manger à leur table un repas délicieux et le matin aussi le petit déjeuner était copieux et très bon.
Despite the bad weather (rain and fog), we still had a great time with Su. He speaks good English, we understood him perfectly, and the welcome at his homestay with his family was really cool because it was so authentic! He was also very accommodating: he lent us boots and booked our taxi back at the end of the hike. Just as recommended. Even though the views and scenery weren't quite what we'd hoped for due to the weather, the experience was fantastic. With a Vietnamese meal he prepared for us in the evening, I opted for breakfast in the morning!
