Ninh Binh, dos horas al sur de Hanói, es el mismo karst calcáreo que la bahía de Ha Long pero levantado entre arrozales en lugar de mar, de ahí que la llamen la Ha Long terrestre. Trang An es el conjunto declarado por la UNESCO, que se recorre a remo en sampán en un circuito de dos o tres horas por una sucesión de cuevas y templos, casi sin ruido de motor; Tam Coc es el paseo más antiguo y más corto entre los campos, en su mejor momento a finales de mayo, cuando el arroz está dorado.
