Tirta Empul est un temple des eaux sur la riviere Pakerisan a Tampaksiring, fonde en 962 apres J.-C. autour d'une source que les Balinais considerent sacree. Le rituel de purification, melukat, consiste a entrer dans le bassin et passer d'une fontaine a l'autre sous l'eau, dans l'ordre ; deux des fontaines sont reservees aux rites funeraires et ne sont pas utilisees, et un guide vous indiquera lesquelles. Des sarongs sont fournis a l'entree, et vous voudrez des vetements de rechange pour apres. Le temple est le plus frequente par les fideles locaux autour de la pleine lune et lors des jours saints balinais, ce qui vaut mieux savoir que d'eviter. Le palais presidentiel construit par Sukarno dans les annees 1950 se trouve sur la colline directement au-dessus des sources.

Loved that the activity is so varied. The canyon walk and swim is adventurous, Gunung Kawi is a temple in the jungle and ricefields and the sacred springs of Tirta Empul is the perfect finish of the day. Our lovely driver for the day, Wayne, is fun and thoughtful. He gave us plenty of information about the Balinese culture and the region. Always always with a big smile and positive. Smooth driving too. Fantastic activity, loved all of it.
