Tirta Empul est un temple des eaux sur la riviere Pakerisan a Tampaksiring, fonde en 962 apres J.-C. autour d'une source que les Balinais considerent sacree. Le rituel de purification, melukat, consiste a entrer dans le bassin et passer d'une fontaine a l'autre sous l'eau, dans l'ordre ; deux des fontaines sont reservees aux rites funeraires et ne sont pas utilisees, et un guide vous indiquera lesquelles. Des sarongs sont fournis a l'entree, et vous voudrez des vetements de rechange pour apres. Le temple est le plus frequente par les fideles locaux autour de la pleine lune et lors des jours saints balinais, ce qui vaut mieux savoir que d'eviter. Le palais presidentiel construit par Sukarno dans les annees 1950 se trouve sur la colline directement au-dessus des sources.

Wayan made our visit to Tirta Empul genuinely special. He arrived with beautiful offerings that his own family had prepared by hand for us to use in the ritual. A small gesture that meant a lot and made the whole experience feel personal rather than touristy. Before we entered the water he explained the meaning behind the purification, so we understood what each fountain represented instead of just following the line. He sorted out the sarongs, the offerings and the locker for us, and stayed close the whole time to tell us when to move and what to say. He also took lovely photos and videos wit
Wayan was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the temple, local customs and requirements for taking part in the water blessing. I was guided at all times and felt safe with his instructions. The water blessing was an amazing experience. Highly recommend doing this with a local guide to ensure you respect all customs.

We liked the most the purification ritual. Our guide Pardika was super helpful and explained clearly how to make a prayer in a traditional Balinese way as well as what are the difference between fountains. Would recommend this activity!
