Description complète

Programme

Itineraries are customisable as per your request

The schedule below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

8:00 AM

Tokyo hotel pickup

Meet your licensed guide and driver in the lobby of your central Tokyo hotel and set off west with highway tolls covered.

Late morning

Mt. Fuji Fifth Station

Drive up the mountain's flank to the highest point vehicles reach, above the treeline on open volcanic ground.

Midday

Lake Kawaguchiko

Time at the lakeshore for the classic reflected view of the cone, weather permitting.

Lunch

Hoto noodles

The Yamanashi speciality: thick flat noodles cooked with pumpkin and vegetables in a miso broth. Paid on the day.

Afternoon

Chureito Pagoda

Climb roughly 400 steps in Arakurayama Sengen Park for the pagoda-and-mountain view above Fujiyoshida.

Late afternoon

Optional extra stop

Oshino Hakkai, the Panoramic Ropeway, the World Heritage Centre, a winery or the Gotemba outlets, chosen in advance.

7:00 PM

Programme détaillé

08:00

Hotel pickup

Guide and driver meet you at a central Tokyo hotel. Confirm any stop swaps now if you have not already.

08:15-10:15

Drive to the Fuji region

About two hours by expressway with tolls included. A useful stretch for background on the mountain and the day ahead.

10:30-11:30

Mt. Fuji Fifth Station

Around 2,300m on the Yoshida side. Shops, a shrine and the start of the summit trail. Noticeably colder and windier than the valley; the road is closed in winter and in poor conditions, when a lower stop replaces it.

11:45-12:45

Lake Kawaguchiko

Shoreline time on the Fuji Five Lakes, with the mountain reflected in still water on calm clear days.

13:00-14:00

Hoto lunch

A local restaurant serving Yamanashi's signature noodle stew. Vegetarian options can usually be arranged with notice. Not included in the price.

14:15-15:30

Chureito Pagoda

Arakurayama Sengen Park above Fujiyoshida. Around 400 steps up to the terrace; cherry blossom in April and maple in November frame the pagoda and the cone.

15:45-17:00

Your chosen extra

Oshino Hakkai's eight lava-filtered spring ponds, the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, the Fujisan World Heritage Centre, a Yamanashi winery, the Kawaguchiko cherry festival in season, or Gotemba Premium Outlets.

17:00-19:00

Return drive

Back to Tokyo by expressway, arriving at your hotel around 7:00 PM depending on traffic.

The price does not cover meals, entrance fees, parking fees. Everything it does cover is listed in full on this page, so if something is not on that list, budget for it separately.
Unless the option says private, this runs as a small group. The operator caps it rather than filling a coach, and if you want it to yourselves the private option is priced separately on this page.
The Backstreet Guides. We book with them directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can confirm your place with the operator before taking it as final.
We confirm your booking with the operator before we treat it as final, and we need at least one day's notice outside India. Once it is confirmed you get the meeting point, the time and a contact number for the day. If the operator cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Every guide maintains a minimum 4.5-star rating to remain active on our platform.
Late March to early April for cherry blossom, or late October to early December for autumn colour and the clearest skies. Contrary to most advice, October is Tokyo's wettest month (234.8 mm), not the June rainy season. Full month-by-month figures are in our best time to visit Tokyo guide.
Get a Suica or Pasmo IC card and budget ¥1,000–¥1,400 a day. Do not buy a JR Pass for a Tokyo-only trip — it costs ¥50,000 and excludes Tokyo Metro and Toei entirely. Note JR East raised Tokyo fares on 14 March 2026, so Metro is now cheaper than JR on several routes. See getting around Tokyo.
Shibuya Sky releases tickets only 14 days ahead at 00:00 JST — it cannot be booked months in advance. teamLab Borderless tickets drop at 12:00 JST on the 1st of each month. Our 3-day Tokyo itinerary lists every booking deadline.
Yes — a Japanese licence or an International Driving Permit issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention. 1968 Vienna Convention permits are not valid in Japan. Licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco and Taiwan need an official JAF translation instead. Arrange it before you fly; see the Tokyo go-kart guide.
Yes — the highway bus from Busta Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko takes about 1h 45m for ¥2,200. But manage expectations: Fuji is visible on 84% of December mornings and only 23% of July mornings, and cloud builds through the day, so go early. Details in our Mount Fuji day trip guide.
Edomae sushi (the Tokyo Bay style, where curing began as a workaround for having no refrigeration), monjayaki — a runny griddle dish unique to Tokyo with 80+ specialists on Tsukishima's Monja Street — and soba. Also worth knowing: Tsukiji Outer Market never closed; only the wholesale auction moved to Toyosu. See the Tokyo food guide.
The crossing itself takes about ninety seconds. What makes it worth an evening is one street back — Nonbei Yokocho, a lantern-lit alley of tiny bars a minute away that almost nobody who photographs the scramble walks into. Note street drinking is banned in the area 18:00–05:00 year-round, though the ordinance carries no fine. See the Shibuya Crossing guide.
Yes, some. Japan's cashless ratio reached 58% in 2025, so over 40% of payments are still cash — and card refusal is most likely at small independent izakaya, ramen ticket machines and market stalls. Tipping is not expected anywhere.
Only during the official season, roughly early July to early September — exact dates are announced each year per route. Outside it the mountain huts close, and climbing becomes a serious mountaineering proposition rather than a hike. A mandatory climbing fee and a daily cap now apply on the Yoshida route, with the other routes following. Full detail in our guide to climbing Mount Fuji.
Counterintuitively, winter — the cold, dry air gives the clearest views, while humid summer haze often hides the mountain entirely. That means the climbing season is also the worst viewing season. Where and when to look is covered in our Mount Fuji viewpoints guide.
An Odakyu pass covering the whole Hakone loop — Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, Lake Ashi boats and buses — for less than buying the legs separately. How the loop works and which direction to travel it is in getting around Hakone.
It varies. Many traditional baths still refuse tattoos, some now allow them with cover stickers, and a private bath (kashikiri) is the reliable workaround. Bathing etiquette and how to find tattoo-friendly options are in our Hakone onsen guide.
It was listed in 2013 for its influence on art, literature and pilgrimage — not for its geology. That is why the listing includes places like Oshino Hakkai and the Sengen shrines, not just the peak itself. Background in our climbing Mount Fuji guide.
Two days lets you do the loop without rushing and still soak properly in an onsen — a single day works but means moving constantly. Our Hakone 2-day itinerary maps it out hour by hour.
Most Hakone and Mt. Fuji private tours here are priced for the whole party, not per traveller — the operator is providing a vehicle and a guide, so a group of four pays the same as a couple. The exceptions are the group summit climbs, which are genuinely per person. Each tour page states which model applies.
