Description complète

8:00 - 10:30 AM

Pickup and route briefing

Meet your guide at your Fujikawaguchiko hotel or guesthouse. Start times are flexible within this window. Before setting off, the guide explains which of the day's possible stops are worth prioritising given the cloud cover and where the mountain is currently showing.

+30 min

Arakurayama Sengen Park and Chureito Pagoda

Around four hundred steps rise from the park entrance to the pagoda terrace. The pagoda itself is a 1963 peace memorial; the reason people come is the composition, with the tiered roofline in the foreground and Fuji behind. Cherry blossom in April and maples in late November change the frame completely.

+1 hr 15

Oshino Hakkai

A small village of eight ponds, each named and each fed by water that entered the mountain as snow decades ago and filtered down through porous basalt. The clarity is the point. Expect thatched roofs, a working water wheel and stalls selling grilled rice cakes and fresh wasabi.

+2 hr 30

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine

An approach through tall cedars leads to the torii that historically opened the Yoshida climbing route. Quiet, cool and considerably older in feeling than anything else on the day.

+3 hr 30

Lunch break

A local restaurant, typically soba or hoto noodles. Budget JPY 1,500-2,000 per person; the cost is not included in the tour rate.

+4 hr 30

Oishi Park, Lake Kawaguchiko

A lakeside garden strip on the northern shore, with seasonal flower beds in the foreground and the full cone of Fuji across the water on a clear afternoon.

+5 hr 15

Nagasaki Park or an optional stop

A low headland on the lake with far fewer visitors. If the light has gone flat, your guide may substitute Haha no Shirataki Falls, the Fugaku Wind Cave, the Dragon Cave lava tube or the thatched village of Saiko Iyashi no Sato.

+6 hr

Drop-off

Return to your accommodation in the Fujikawaguchiko area.

Inclus

Only during the official season, roughly early July to early September — exact dates are announced each year per route. Outside it the mountain huts close, and climbing becomes a serious mountaineering proposition rather than a hike. A mandatory climbing fee and a daily cap now apply on the Yoshida route, with the other routes following. Full detail in our guide to climbing Mount Fuji.
Counterintuitively, winter — the cold, dry air gives the clearest views, while humid summer haze often hides the mountain entirely. That means the climbing season is also the worst viewing season. Where and when to look is covered in our Mount Fuji viewpoints guide.
An Odakyu pass covering the whole Hakone loop — Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, Lake Ashi boats and buses — for less than buying the legs separately. How the loop works and which direction to travel it is in getting around Hakone.
It varies. Many traditional baths still refuse tattoos, some now allow them with cover stickers, and a private bath (kashikiri) is the reliable workaround. Bathing etiquette and how to find tattoo-friendly options are in our Hakone onsen guide.
It was listed in 2013 for its influence on art, literature and pilgrimage — not for its geology. That is why the listing includes places like Oshino Hakkai and the Sengen shrines, not just the peak itself. Background in our climbing Mount Fuji guide.
Two days lets you do the loop without rushing and still soak properly in an onsen — a single day works but means moving constantly. Our Hakone 2-day itinerary maps it out hour by hour.
Most Hakone and Mt. Fuji private tours here are priced for the whole party, not per traveller — the operator is providing a vehicle and a guide, so a group of four pays the same as a couple. The exceptions are the group summit climbs, which are genuinely per person. Each tour page states which model applies.
