Colombo n’est pas une destination de recif, et cette session est honnete sur ce qu’elle est : une courte seance de tuba supervisee dans les eaux abritees du front de mer remblaye de Port City, destinee a ceux qui veulent essayer un masque et un tuba pour la premiere fois ou occuper une heure sur la cote sans quitter la ville.

Un guide ajuste votre masque, vous montre comment le vider et comment respirer dans le tuba sans avaler la moitie de l’ocean Indien, puis vous emmene en petit groupe au-dessus des hauts-fonds. Personne n’est invite a plonger en apnee ou a nager une quelconque distance. Si vous n’avez jamais mis le visage dans la mer avant, c’est l’introduction la plus douce possible, et le guide reste dans l’eau avec vous tout le temps.

Ce que vous verrez depend entierement du jour. L’eau au large de Colombo charrie des sediments du port et des rivieres, la visibilite oscille donc entre correcte et mauvaise. Par une matinee claire, vous verrez de petits poissons de recif et de decombres au-dessus de la structure qui a pousse sur les brise-lames. Par temps trouble, vous aurez une baignade et une leçon. Quiconque espere des jardins de corail devrait plutot reserver sur la cote est, et l’operateur dira la meme chose.

L’avantage de cette session est la commodite et la saison. C’est a quelques minutes des hotels du centre de Colombo, les creneaux fixes sont courts pour s’inserer dans une journee en ville, et aucune certification, formulaire medical ou experience n’est necessaire.

Les conditions sont meilleures durant les mois les plus secs, d’environ novembre a avril. Pendant la mousson du sud-ouest, de mai a septembre environ, la houle sur cette cote augmente et les sessions sont frequemment reportees pour des raisons de securite plutot que de se derouler dans de mauvaises eaux.

Apportez un maillot de bain, attendez-vous a etre de retour sur terre en une heure, et considerez-la comme une degustation plutot que l’evenement principal d’un voyage a Sri Lanka.
