Le remblai de Port City a cree une etendue d’eau abritee juste a cote du centre-ville de Colombo, et les operateurs de sports nautiques l’utilisent pour les activites tractees qui necessitent des conditions calmes. Le ski nautique en fait partie, et ceci est une seule et courte session sur l’eau plutot qu’un stage d’une demi-journee.

Vous recevez d’abord un briefing a terre : comment se tenir dans l’eau avec les skis pointes vers le haut, ou tenir la corde, et l’instruction la plus importante, qui est de laisser le bateau vous tirer vers le haut plutot que d’essayer de vous lever seul. Le pilote du bateau et un observateur gerent la session, et la vitesse est adaptee a ce que vous pouvez gerer plutot qu’a un chiffre fixe.

Les debutants doivent s’attendre a ce que les deux ou trois premieres tentatives se terminent par une gorgee d’eau de mer. C’est normal, et la plupart des gens se levent et skient dès la quatrieme ou cinquieme traction. Les skieurs qui savent deja ce qu’ils font peuvent ignorer le coaching et simplement utiliser tout le creneau sur l’eau. Dans tous les cas, un gilet de flottaison est porte en permanence et le bateau reste proche.

Vingt minutes, c’est le temps sur l’eau, pas le total. Prevoyez environ une heure a la base une fois ajoutes le briefing, l’attente du bateau, l’equipement et le sechage apres coup. Les creneaux sont courts et s’enchainent, etre en retard signifie generalement perdre la reservation.

Les conditions importent ici plus que tout. L’eau est la plus calme et la plus propre durant les mois les plus secs, d’environ novembre a avril ; pendant la mousson du sud-ouest, de mai a septembre environ, la houle s’installe sur cette cote et les sessions sont souvent deplacees ou annulees pour des raisons de securite.

C’est un bon frisson court pour une heure libre a Colombo et cela ne necessite aucune experience, mais c’est une activite unique plutot qu’une sortie complete, combinez-la donc avec autre chose sur le front de mer.
