Horton Plains se trouve a 32 kilometres de Nuwara Eliya et le voyage ne fonctionne qu'a l'aube, ce qui rend difficile de le combiner avec autre chose. Cette version resout cela en ne revenant pas: vous marchez le plateau le matin et etes ensuite conduit vers Haputale ou Ella, avec vos bagages dans la voiture.

Le plateau se trouve a environ 2 300 metres et ne ressemble a rien d'autre dans le pays: prairie d'altitude et foret de nuages, balaye par le vent, froid, avec des arbres rabougris couverts de mousse.

World's End est la raison d'y etre: l'escarpement sud se termine et le sol tombe d'environ 870 metres en une paroi abrupte. Il fait face au sud, l'air chaud monte de la plaine durant la matinee, et vers neuf ou dix heures il y a un nuage ou devrait se trouver la vue. Ce seul fait explique pourquoi le portail ouvre a six heures et pourquoi ce voyage commence a cinq heures.

La boucle fait neuf kilometres et trois a quatre heures, parcourue dans le sens antihoraire pour que World's End arrive avant les nuages et que les cascades de Baker arrivent au retour.

Puis la route continue, qui descend de 2 300 metres a mille metres et environ douze degres plus chaud.

Ella est un village a 1 040 metres dans les montagnes du sud, atteint par le train depuis Kandy que la plupart des gens considerent comme le plus beau trajet ferroviaire d'Asie, et ses sites sont tous a quelques kilometres: le pont aux neuf arches, un viaduc en brique de 1921 dans une gorge de the, qu'un train traverse plusieurs fois par jour; le Little Adam's Peak, une marche de 40 minutes a travers le the jusqu'a une crete; Ella Rock, une ascension plus difficile de trois heures; et les cascades de Ravana sur la route vers Wellawaya. Nanu Oya, about 10 km and a 20-30 minute drive from the town. Nuwara Eliya has no station of its own, and tuk-tuk fares at Nanu Oya rise sharply the moment a train arrives.
