A noter avant de reserver: le Departement de la conservation de la faune a ferme les blocs 1 et 2 du parc national de Yala du 14 septembre au 15 octobre 2026 en raison de la secheresse, donc les safaris dans ces blocs ne peuvent pas avoir lieu a ces dates. Les blocs 3 a 6 restent ouverts, et Udawalawe et Wilpattu ne sont pas affectes, pour un voyage dans cette periode nous vous contacterons pour deplacer le safari vers l'un de ces parcs ou a une date apres le 15 octobre. Udawalawe est le parc le plus fort pour les elephants; Wilpattu offre des observations de leopards plus tranquilles.

De Nuwara Eliya a la region de Yala, on descend de 1 900 metres au niveau de la mer en environ cinq heures, et Ella se trouve presque exactement a mi-chemin. S'y arreter plutot que de passer devant fait toute la difference entre un transfert et une journee.

La route quitte le pays du the et descend par Bandarawela et Ella, ou le paysage s'ouvre a travers l'Ella Gap vers la plaine sud. Le pont aux neuf arches est l'arret principal: 91 metres de viaduc en pierre a 24 metres au-dessus d'une gorge, construit pendant la Premiere Guerre mondiale en maçonnerie solide car l'acier prevu pour lui a ete requisitionne pour l'Europe.

Ella Rock figure au programme pour ceux qui le souhaitent, bien que ce soit une marche aller-retour de trois heures sur un terrain non signale, et l'ajouter transforme cette journee en une tres longue journee, la plupart des gens prennent le pont et les cascades et laissent la marche pour un sejour plutot qu'un transfert.

Les cascades de Ravana, une large cascade au bord de la route en dessous d'Ella, sont le dernier arret des montagnes avant la descente vers la plaine.

Vous arrivez a Tissamaharama ou dans la region de Yala en fin d'apres-midi, a temps pour vous installer avant un safari a l'aube le lendemain matin.
