Riding pillion through Rishikesh was the highlight of our trip. Our guide picked us up right from the hotel and knew every shortcut around the traffic. Crossing Laxman Jhula on the scooter, stopping for chaat at a tiny roadside stall, then ending at the Ganga Aarti as the lamps floated down the river was pure magic. Genuinely felt like seeing the city through a local's eyes.

As a solo traveller this was perfect. I didn't have to worry about navigating or being alone all day, and my guide was a proper storyteller who explained the meaning behind the temples we visited. The Beatles Ashram was fascinating with all the painted domes. Eight hours flew by. Fuel, parking and water all sorted, no hidden costs. Booking this again if I return.

We saw so much more than we ever could have on foot. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, the quiet river beaches the guide took us to, and cafés I never would have found on my own. He adjusted the whole day around what we wanted to see. The evening Aarti was deeply moving. Fantastic value for fifty-nine dollars considering it was basically a private day.

Brilliant way to explore Rishikesh and our guide was a legend on the bike. Only small gripe is that October afternoons were still pretty warm and a couple of temple stops felt a touch rushed to fit everything into the day. That said, weaving through the lanes to reach the Beatles Ashram and finishing at the river more than made up for it. Highly recommend.

Such a clever way to experience the city. My guide spoke to me in a mix of languages and made me feel completely at ease on the back of the scooty. We tried pakoras and local sweets he recommended, wandered Ram Jhula, and reached a hidden little beach on the Ganges. Water bottle and helmet provided. Felt safe the entire time. Loved it.

Did this in late January and the riverside evening was chilly, so bring a jacket, but the Aarti under the cold clear sky was unforgettable. Our rider handled the narrow lanes near Trayambakeshwar Temple effortlessly and kept stopping for photos at spots a car could never reach. Pickup from our guesthouse was bang on time. One of the best value experiences we had in India.

I cannot recommend this enough. Instead of sweating it out in traffic we glided from bridge to temple to café, and our guide clearly loved his city. He knew exactly when to arrive for the Aarti to get a good spot on the ghat. Trying street food at the little stalls he chose was a highlight. Genuine, warm and completely unrushed for the most part.

Really good day out and our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Worth knowing that May is hot, so the midday riding got sweaty and I'd suggest asking to start early. Lunch isn't included but the roadside chaat he recommended was cheap and delicious. Loved the Beatles Ashram and cruising along the Ganges. Solid value and a much smarter way to see Rishikesh than a taxi.

Frequently Asked Questions

You ride as a pillion passenger behind your guide, who doubles as a highly trained storyteller and scooty driver. There's no need for a licence or any riding experience of your own, so you can relax, take in the Ganges views and focus on the sights while your local guide handles Rishikesh's narrow lanes and traffic.
The single option, Rishikesh Like A Local - Rishikesh On Scooter With Guide ($59), covers hotel pickup and drop-off on the scooter, all fuel and parking charges, a complimentary water bottle, and your multilingual guide for the full 8 hours. It also gets you access to hidden spots, temples and quiet river beaches most visitors never find.
No, lunch is not included. Your guide takes you to local roadside eateries where you can try chaat, pakoras and traditional sweets at your own cost. Budget a very small amount for street food, and let your guide know if you'd prefer a sit-down restaurant instead. It's a great way to eat exactly where the locals do.
You'll cross the iconic Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges, stop at spiritual temples including Trayambakeshwar Temple and Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, explore the famous Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutia), weave through hidden cafés and quiet river beaches, and finish with the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony on the riverbank.
Yes. The day is timed so you finish with the evening Ganga Aarti, the riverside prayer ceremony with lamps, chanting and floating flames on the Ganges. It's one of the most atmospheric moments in Rishikesh, and arriving by scooter with a local guide means you skip the parking hassle and get a good vantage point.
The tour runs a full 8 hours, starting after breakfast with hotel pickup and wrapping up at the evening Aarti. The pace is relaxed but full, with plenty of photo stops. Because you're on a scooter rather than stuck in traffic, you cover far more of the city than you could on foot or by car in the same time.
Yes, pickup and drop-off from your hotel are included on the scooter. Just share your accommodation details when you book. If you're staying a little outside central Rishikesh (for example in Tapovan or across the river), mention it in advance so your guide can confirm the timing.
Absolutely, it's actually one of the best options for solo travellers. Riding pillion with a friendly local guide is safe, sociable and easy, and you'll have someone to share stories with all day. Solo visitors especially love not having to navigate the bridges and temple lanes alone.
This tour is best for teenagers and adults comfortable sitting as a pillion passenger for much of the day. Very young children aren't suitable on a two-wheeler for safety reasons. Older travellers who are steady getting on and off a scooter and can manage some walking at temples and the Beatles Ashram will be fine, but please tell us about any mobility concerns before booking.
It's light to moderate. Most of your travel is seated on the scooter, so it's far less tiring than walking all day. You'll do some walking on foot at the temples, across Laxman and Ram Jhula, and around the Beatles Ashram, which has uneven ground and steps, so comfortable shoes help.
Wear modest, comfortable clothing since you'll visit temples where shoulders and knees should be covered, and closed shoes for the scooter and the ashram's rough paths. Bring a light layer, as riding creates a breeze. In summer it gets hot, so add a cap and sunscreen; from December to February pack a jacket for the cooler riverside evenings.
The most comfortable months are October to March, with pleasant days and clear Ganges views. April to June is hot, so an early start and plenty of water help. Avoid the peak monsoon of July and August when heavy rain can affect riding and river conditions. The evening Aarti is beautiful year-round.
Yes, and you'll want to. Your guide builds in photo stops at the suspension bridges, temples, the Beatles Ashram's painted meditation domes and the hidden river beaches. Being on a scooter means you can pull over at scenic viewpoints a car simply can't reach, so keep your camera handy throughout the day.
Yes. Your guide is an experienced local rider who knows the roads, the traffic patterns and the quieter back lanes, and rides at a sensible pace. A helmet is provided for you as the pillion passenger. Riding two-wheelers is the normal way to get around Rishikesh, and it's genuinely the easiest way to beat the traffic.
You ride one-on-one with your own guide, so it feels private and personal rather than part of a large group. The guide is a multilingual speaker, so let us know your preferred language when booking and we'll do our best to match you. This flexibility makes it easy to ask questions and shape the day around your interests.
Book online by selecting the Rishikesh Like A Local - Rishikesh On Scooter With Guide ($59) option and your preferred date, then share your hotel name and pickup preference. You'll receive confirmation with your meeting details. Because it's a single-guide experience, we recommend booking a few days ahead, especially in the busy October to March season.
