Full description

This is a 5-hour experience from Ubud, built around Tirta Gangga, Maha Gangga Valley and Tunas Bali Luwak Coffee. It is run by AMED SAILING, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

East Bali is the quieter side of the island under Mount Agung. The Sidemen valley has rice terraces without the crowds of Tegallalang and a view straight up to the volcano; Tirta Gangga is a water palace built by the last raja of Karangasem in 1946, with stepping stones across a carp pond; Taman Ujung is the same family's earlier palace of 1919 on the coast. Besakih, the mother temple, is a complex of 23 temples at 1,000 metres on Agung's slope and needs a sarong and, since 2023, an official guide. Further round the coast, Amed has black-sand beaches and Tulamben has the USAT Liberty, a cargo ship torpedoed in 1942 and pushed into the sea by Agung's 1963 eruption, now a wreck dive and snorkel from the beach.
