Full description
This is a 4-hour experience from Ubud, built around Denpasar. It is run by A Chef's Tour, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Balinese food is built on base genep, the island's spice paste, and eaten from warungs and night markets more than restaurants. Babi guling, spit-roast pig with crackling and spiced rice, is the dish the island is known for; nasi campur is rice with a spoonful of several things; sate lilit is minced meat on lemongrass; and lawar is the chopped salad that comes with most of it. Gianyar's night market opens at about 5:00 in the evening and is the best one near Ubud. Food tours stop at six to ten places for small portions, so arrive hungry, and tell the guide about chilli tolerance early, because Balinese sambal is not mild.
The price covers 15 plus food tastings included, Movable feast with 7-8 stops around the streets of old, Max 8 exclusive guests, Bottled water and local drinks included and Duration is around 3-4 hours. It does not cover Alcoholic drinks, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Vegetarian diets have 3-4 fewer tastings due to limited and Unsuitable for severe allergies and celiac disease, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

Great food , great guide , very easy walking and seeing sites of Denpasar that I haven’t seen before
Raysid our tour guide was excellent, the meeting point directions were a bit misleading Food choices were good with a few ‘interesting’ dishes Badung Market is a definite must see…and an eye opener
We met our guide, Rice at the meeting point. He gave us details of our walking tour and then we set off. Our first stop was to a small eatery where we had three dishes washed down with arak. Fabulous! Crossed the road to eat skewered pork with a salty sauce… delicious! Then we went down an alley to eat chicken braised in over 25 spices. I wasn’t that keen. We then headed towards Bandung market passed a shrine they are restoring. Walked through the market and tasted Godzilla skewers, green moch type balls, taco spring rolls. We then stopped for pancakes with chocolate and peanuts. Totally full
Ras was an amazing guide! We learned so much about Balinese traditions, culture, and local life throughout the tour. The food was delicious, with plenty of authentic dishes to taste. The highlight for us was visiting the local market—it was such a great way to experience traditional Bali and see how locals live. We highly recommend this tour, especially if you want an authentic cultural experience!
Raysid was a knowledgeable and hospitable food tour guide that brought us to many delicious tastings which left us feeling full and satisfied with the experience. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a taste of Bali!
Our guide spoke very good English the spots we went to the food was traditional and delicious. We are so much food very good value for money. highly recommended.
This is the 2nd time I have done this tour and again it was excellent! There were changes in the tastings since my last tour, everything we tried was delicious! I highly recommend this tour!
Raysid was great. Very informative with lots of good insight into a wide variety of Balinese and Indonesian culture. The foods we had were delicious, favourites were the sate, noodles, and pancakes (especially pancakes). Absolutely loved the market tour. Thanks Raysid!
Only 7 of us on the tour which was great. Any more and you would struggle to hear the guide. All the food choices were good. Very tasty and interesting to learn of the culture. Even tough it was street food the places we went to seemed very clean and we were not concerned at all about hygiene. We would recommend the tour. Our guide Russ was very knowledgeable about Bali and its traditions.
I liked the tour, tasted lots of good food and didn't have bali belly. the tour guide took us to lots of different locations by walk and told us interesting stories.
The best way to experience Bali! This was a gorgeous tour that included a wide range of delicious foods. Highly recommend and would definitely do it again!
What an amazing experience walking around Denpasar having tastings at places a tourist wouldn’t normally visit. The food choices were amazing. And kudos to the food guide, he held everyone’s attention and is a great ambassador for Bali.
