Full description
This is a 5-hour experience in Ubud, built around South Batur, Mount Batur and Cretya Ubud. It is run by Your Bali Trekking Tour, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Mount Batur is an active volcano of 1,717 metres standing inside a much older caldera, with Lake Batur on the floor of it. Sunrise treks start from Toya Bungkah on the lake shore, climb for around two hours on volcanic sand and loose rock, and aim to be on the rim by about 5:30, since the sun comes up between 6:00 and 6:30 depending on the month, behind the cone of Mount Agung to the east. The summit before dawn is regularly 8 to 12°C with wind, so a real warm layer matters more than anything else you pack. Trekking is run through the local village association, which is why every tour, ours included, comes with a guide, and most mornings end at the hot springs on the lake shore. Jeep and ATV versions drive to a viewpoint on the flank of the volcano for the same sunrise and skip the climb, which is the right choice for knees, small children and anyone who did not sleep. In the wet season, November to March, the top is often inside cloud at dawn and there is no refund for weather.

It does not cover Lunch, Personal Expense and Gratuity, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.

We absolutely loved this tour, starting with the Mt Batur hike and reaching the summit was so worth it, very cool experience, we were very grateful to our driver BAGONK! Honestly the whole day from pick up to drop up, he was a great driver, answered any questions we had and was very patient throughout the trip and had great communication and English. We went onto a beautiful coffee tasting place - you gotta try the cat-poo-chino! and then onto the Cretya Pool & Alas Harum which was just stunning, was a big day and would highly recommend.

It wasn't an easy climb or descent but so worth the incredible views at the top!! Clear views of the lake, Mt Abang and Mt Agung, as well as panorama all around Mt Batur itself. We had Nyoman as our guide who was extremely helpful, stopping for breaks when needed and offering a helping hand on the way up and back down. Aguss was out driver, ferried us all morning starting at 3am until lunchtime and was cheerful and friendly from the get go. My partner and I really enjoyed our day! All the guides were incredibly accommodating and very lovely. Ridho was our driver for the day and he provided us a wonderful experience, accommodated all of our requests and ensured we had a perfect day. Would highly recommend this tour and doing these activities together. A very good mix of intensity and relaxation. Even though the view was cloudy, the hike and 1am wake up were more than worth it!
