This is a 6.5-hour experience in Ubud, built around Tirta Empul, Gunung Kawi Temple and Ubud. It is run by Trip Gotik - Bali Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Tirta Empul is a water temple on the Pakerisan river at Tampaksiring, founded in 962 AD around a spring the Balinese hold sacred. The purification ritual, melukat, means entering the pool and moving from spout to spout under the water in order; two of the spouts are reserved for funeral rites and are not used, and a guide will show you which. Sarongs are provided at the entrance, and you will want a change of clothes for afterwards. The temple is busiest with local worshippers around full moon and on Balinese holy days, which is worth knowing rather than avoiding. The presidential palace built by Sukarno in the 1950s stands on the hill directly above the springs.

Komang was a very knowledgeable and attentive guide and took his time to explain the history of the temples and the rituals. My experience was great for both temples. The purification ceremony was really nice the atmosphere as well and everyone around was respectful. I give this a solid five stars and again special thanks to Komang!

Andina was a fantastic guide, expertly guiding us through the purification ritual at Tirta Empul and providing loads of interesting info about the temples we visited. The coffee tasting with a beautiful view was a lovely way to end the experience. She was also super accommodating and dropped us in the centre of Ubud so we could explore after rather than back at our accommodation.

Het was een prachtige dag! Onze driver en guide Gus was vriendelijk, behulpzaam en wist enorm veel te vertellen over Bali, de Balinese cultuur en het hindoeïsme. Super interessant! De tempels waren indrukwekkend. Zeker Gunung Kawi was bijzonder. En het zuiveringsritueel maakte het helemaal af.
