This is a 18-hour experience from Ubud, built around Base Camp Gunung Agung Via Edelweis. It is run by Batur Geopark, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.

Mount Agung, at 3,031 metres, is Bali's highest mountain and its most sacred, the volcano the island's temples are oriented towards. The sunrise climb is much harder than Batur: from Pura Pasar Agung the route to the crater rim takes three to four hours of steep climbing, and from Besakih the summit route takes six to seven hours, starting before midnight. It is loose, exposed and cold near the top, and climbs close during religious ceremonies at Besakih and when the alert level is raised; the volcano erupted as recently as 2017 to 2019. Guides are mandatory, and reasonable fitness and proper shoes are not optional here.
