Full description
This is a 12-hour experience from Ubud, built around Mount Agung. It is run by Mount Batur Jeep Adventure, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
East Bali is the quieter side of the island under Mount Agung. The Sidemen valley has rice terraces without the crowds of Tegallalang and a view straight up to the volcano; Tirta Gangga is a water palace built by the last raja of Karangasem in 1946, with stepping stones across a carp pond; Taman Ujung is the same family's earlier palace of 1919 on the coast. Besakih, the mother temple, is a complex of 23 temples at 1,000 metres on Agung's slope and needs a sarong and, since 2023, an official guide. Further round the coast, Amed has black-sand beaches and Tulamben has the USAT Liberty, a cargo ship torpedoed in 1942 and pushed into the sea by Agung's 1963 eruption, now a wreck dive and snorkel from the beach.
The price covers local guide, Safety equipment, First aid kit, Entrance fees and Breakfast. It does not cover Personal expenses and Tips, so budget for those separately. Everything included is listed in full on this page; if something is not on that list, assume it is not in the price.
Mount Batur Jeep Adventure sends the meeting point and time by email as soon as the booking is confirmed. We need at least one day's notice, and we confirm the date with Mount Batur Jeep Adventure before treating your booking as final. If they cannot take your date we tell you and refund you rather than leave you waiting.

Traveler Reviews
Firstly it was really difficult - I’ve run ultramarathons and have climbed one other 3,000m+ peak and this was up there in difficulty. Part of the challenge was not having the right equipment - you need a big bag to carry 3L+ of water and huge snack/lunch boxes. You could really do with specialist climbing/hiking shoes thatre good with slippy volcanic rock. And cold weather and rain protection gear is a must. The tour should do more to let you know about this before the trip.
Le guide était génial et l’écoute, la vue était époustouflante. Je recommande fortement attention toutefois la montée s’avère rude par moment et il faut être patient pour la descente! 10/10!
The sunrise was spectacular but we found this activity to be quite poorly planned overall. We were picked up from hour hotel at 9:30 pm and driven to the start of the hike, where we met our guide, who spoke no English. We were given a very basic breakfast for the following morning. Despite having asked in advance for vegan food, the only vegan elements were 2 bananas. We were told we should bring our own food. The hike up was smooth until we stopped at around 2600m and waited for two hours in the cold, to avoid reaching the summit way before sunrise. We found this nonsensical as there are more
Mount Agung was perfect and it was really pretty, but the guide we got wasn’t the best! He was not bad and he made his job, but he was going to quickly, my friends and felt that he just wanted to end the job as quickly as he could, but other than that it was a really cool experience!
