Full description
This is a 8-hour experience from Ubud, built around Mount Batur and Black Lava. It is run by Trip Gotik - Bali Tours, an operator we book with directly rather than through a reseller, which is why we can hold your place with them before we treat your booking as final.
Mount Batur is an active volcano of 1,717 metres standing inside a much older caldera, with Lake Batur on the floor of it. Sunrise treks start from Toya Bungkah on the lake shore, climb for around two hours on volcanic sand and loose rock, and aim to be on the rim by about 5:30, since the sun comes up between 6:00 and 6:30 depending on the month, behind the cone of Mount Agung to the east. The summit before dawn is regularly 8 to 12°C with wind, so a real warm layer matters more than anything else you pack. Trekking is run through the local village association, which is why every tour, ours included, comes with a guide, and most mornings end at the hot springs on the lake shore. Jeep and ATV versions drive to a viewpoint on the flank of the volcano for the same sunrise and skip the climb, which is the right choice for knees, small children and anyone who did not sleep. In the wet season, November to March, the top is often inside cloud at dawn and there is no refund for weather.

Eddy was a fantastic guide and photographer! He was so sweet anf took so many great photos. We were one of the first people up and got a great spot. He then took so many amazing photos with the stars. And then as the sun was rising. The breakfast was good too. And after the sunrise, seeing the volcanic rock was great too. He shared the history of the eruptions. Amazing!! I highly recommend Eddy.
We had an amazing Mount Batur Jeep sunrise and lava fields tour! Our driver, Wayan, was excellent. He made the whole trip comfortable from the beginning and showed us some stunning views. Our Jeep guide Amut was also super kind and friendly. He explained a lot about Mount Batur and the lava fields, which made the experience even more interesting. Amut also took really great photos and videos of us. He put so much effort into getting the best shots and made sure we had beautiful memories from the tour. The tour was fantastic every thing promised in the information and more was delivered. It was a prefect trip! The driver and the guide were excellent. Although it was damn early.start 2 AM, it was worth it.
We had a great day with our guide and driver Iwayan! Iwayan picked us up in time: before the tour he already contacted us as it was not possible to get to our hotel by car, and he found a great alternative for the pick up point. He had already prepared water in his car and started explaining about the tour, Balinese culture, and was able to provide a lot of information about anything we saw along the way! It was a cloudy day so we didn’t see much of a sunrise but the experience was amazing anyway. Wayan was the best tour guide taking us to coffee tasting and a swing. The V8 4-wheel jeep was epic!! Totally cool morning.

I had a good time overall, and both of my guides were very nice and helpful. However, I was a bit disappointed that we did not visit the café listed on the itinerary and instead did a coffee tasting at a plantation. As I had already done a similar activity before and was really looking forward to the panoramic view of the volcano from the café, this was a bit of a letdown. I do wish this change had been communicated in advance. Other than that, I had a good experience.
